May 12th, 2022
The Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area [RRCNCA] is located just a few miles west of Las Vegas and encompasses 195,819 acres within the Mojave Desert. The Canyon has a 13 mile scenic drive that loops through the National Park with about 15 stops that you can get out and get a closer look at the formations. It has all kinds of formations and rock mountains to see that are known Worldwide. If you like to hike, there are several trails available as well. There is a visitor center as you enter and they have a very good map of the drive that you will want to pick up. At the time of this writing you will also need a vehicle reservation pass to get in. You can get it on line in advance or take your chances day of and see if you can get one. This is in addition to the regular National Park Pass.
There are petrologists, a climber (great place if you like to climb), and if you look real close at some of the photos you can see people at the bottom on trails; gives you a sense of size.
Some of the photos are panoramics so you will want to turn your phone sideways or zoom in.
