Gulf Shores Alabama, part 2 of 3
Our stay at Gulf Shores Alabama so far has been great. Where they are getting snow and single digit temperatures back home we are in the 60/40’s with a hot sun. Went to the beach the other day. Took our electric bikes for the two block trip. The public beach is great, lots of walkways, benches, handicap paths to the water, etc. Not too many people and no problems parking if you needed to drive. We get there, walk the beach for a little while, then sit on a bench in the warm sun and whatch the other people and kids. Very relaxing… may have to take a nap there next time.

I have been having a little trouble swinging my leg over my ebike to get on it. Have to tilt the bike and have almost tripped a couple of times. So, decided to get a different one, one with a “step- through” design. Old bike on the left and new bike on the right. Loaned the old bike to a neighbor to try, then he bought it.
OLD: NEW:
They both are basically the same bike but the new one has a larger battery, although I never had a problem the other one. It also is a little heavier and 2″ longer. Had to modify the back of the truck so it would fit, which it does like a glove now. Electric bikes are great, especially if you have knee problems, elderly, or just want to travel light, fast, and far, with putting whatever effort you want into your ride. It has to be one of the funnest things we do as we travel. The Gulf Shores State Park, just a few miles away, has over 40 miles of trails and a good percentage of those trails are on board walks over marsh and sand dunes. There are bike riders everywhere. We have a service road from our campground over to the park, great access. The below route is about 20 miles:
Rene’e has been going to several ladies functions. She made a Marti Gras reef, went to a Ladies Tea party, and went to a Ladies Pamper party.
The folks that are here for several months become your friends. You get to know where they are from, their family, etc., its a lot of fun… a community develops and you may see them next year. The short term folks, usually younger people, don’t say “Hi,” and drive fast through the campground always having some place to go. Wish I could tell them to s.l.o.w down a little and enjoy life.
We have been playing Bingo every Monday night, there are about 20 people that attend. It costs $3 to play several games, three cards at a time. Lots of fun. I have one three times and kept the last two cards just to prove it, haha.
I taught a two part “Photography” class to about 15 people. They really enjoyed it. Part-1 was composition and part-2 was about using the “Snapseed” app on your phone.
Rene’e has been collecting sea shells and we have learned where to go to get the best ones. We started a the Gulf Shores State Park and there were several smaller ones to comb through. Then we went to the Navarre Beach area, other side of Pensacola, near the “Gulf Islands National Seashore.” The area has to be the most beustiful place I have ever seen. One road, no buildings, just sand dunes, a few parking areas, white sands, and gorgeous clear turquoise water.

We went to the “Advanced Redoubt Area,” part of the Gulf Islands National Seashore on the NAS (Navel Air Station) Pensacola base. Cool old fort and Barrancas Military Cemetery.
